Richard P. Byrne Joins NAM's New York Metro Area Panel

Garden City, New York, May 13, 2014

National Arbitration and Mediation (“NAM”) has announced the addition of L’Abbate Balkan partner, Richard P. Byrne, to its New York panel of neutrals. He is now available to arbitrate and mediate cases throughout the country.

A strong proponent of Alternative Dispute Resolution and a Certified Mediator with the United States District Courts of New York, Richard P. Byrne brings over 20 years of ADR experience to NAM’s New York Metro panel.

Mr. Byrne has been serving as a mediator since ADR first came on the horizon as a cost-effective means of resolving litigation and other disputes. He is well-respected professionally and has a reputation for bringing the most contentious of disputes to full and final resolution.

He has mediated issues in a variety of specialty areas, including employment discrimination, construction and commercial disputes, complex personal injury and property damage claims, insurance and reinsurance matters, risk transfer and disability claims. His legal career of 31 years brings an added dimension of expertise to the matters he presides over.

In 2013, Mr. Byrne was selected by Kenneth R. Feinberg, the former Administrator of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, to assist in the mediation and resolution of Hurricane Sandy claims. Recently, he was asked to join a sub-panel for the United States District Court, to help resolve a backload of 900 Hurricane Sandy lawsuits. Mr. Byrne is a Special Editorial Board Member on Alternative Dispute Resolution for the Journal of American Law and is a member of the mediation panels for both the United States District Court and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Roy Israel, NAM President and CEO, stated, “Richard’s enthusiasm for ADR and his proven success as a mediator make him a perfect fit for NAM. I am so pleased he has joined the panel and look forward to him serving NAM’s clients both in New York and throughout the country.”
