Anthony P. Colavita Celebrates 30 Years with L’Abbate Balkan!
Garden City, New York, February 15, 2013 –
The original firm of L'Abbate & Balkan was formed in October 1981 by Donald R. L'Abbate and Kenneth J. Balkan to provide high quality legal services economically and efficiently to those in the professional liability field. On February 15, 1983, Anthony Colavita joined the Firm as its first associate.
Firm co-founder, Donald L’Abbate, has said of Mr. Colavita’s hiring, “In 1983 we hired our first associate, Tony Colavita. Actually when we hired Tony his salary was way over our budgeted figure but we knew we could not pass him up. Thus began a tradition of hiring only the brightest and best young attorneys, a practice that has held us in good stead for all these years.”
In 1985 Mr. Colavita was named a partner of the Firm and in 1995 the Firm’s name was expanded to L'Abbate, Balkan, Colavita & Contini, L.L.P. in recognition of the contributions of both Mr. Colavita and Peter L. Contini. In 2005, Mr. Colavita became a co-managing partner of the Firm.
Since his admission to practice in 1978, Mr. Colavita has concentrated in all forms of corporate and commercial litigation, including the defense of lawyers, directors and officers and accountants in transactional disputes and intellectual property cases on both the State and Federal level through trial and appeal. His broad-based litigation experience makes a strong contribution to the Firm and its clients.
Mr. Colavita received his Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law in 1977. This was preceded by a Master of Arts Degree awarded to him by Columbia University in October 1974. He is admitted to practice before the Courts of the State of New York, the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Northern, and Western Districts of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He has lectured before a number of professional organizations and societies, including the New York State Bar Association and as a guest lecturer at Hofstra University School of Law on issues of legal malpractice.
Congratulations to Tony Colavita on his 30 years with the Firm!
